17 year old Cornish karateka is latest to achieve karate Black Belt!

Congratulations to Sam Newbury who successfully passed his Black Belt assessment.

Sam who started training at Marazion in 2020, right at the start of the global coronavirus pandemic which caused havoc to clubs, schools and every day life. Not only did Sam return to training as soon as he could after the lockdown but he has been consistently turning up and training every week, not just Marazion but Sennen too.

Sam has shown remarkable resilience and a fantastic attitude throughout his karate training, none more so then when he returned to training after the covid lockdown to find that all the other students didn’t return and he was often the only student to attend training. It would of been very easy to quit there and then like everyone else had done but Sam was different to everyone else, he had it… Sam quickly realised that this was a great opportunity for him to learn and to be taught in a 1-to-1 environment where he would have the instructors undivided attention, which he took full advantage of.

It was his dedication and hard work which put him in a great position to be able to conquer his greatest accomplishment to date and earn his karate Black Belt at the age of just 17.

Sam was closely watched and assessed by Elaine Jaycock our deputy head of style and an 8th Dan Black Belt, Clive Double, our Cornwall Area Head Coach and 7th Dan Black Belt, and John George a 2nd Dan Black Belt from Radley Karate Club.

Everyone at Sennen and Marazion extend their warmest congratulations to Sam and can’t wait to see what’s next in store in his karate journey. A big well done Sam!!!!!!

Sam wasn’t the only one being assessed today Denzil Searle was awarded his 5th Dan, and John George was awarded his 3rd Dan. Congratulations to both who’s dedication to MayoShinDo is fantastic, we are lucky to have you both!!
